Sour Grounds Between Sephora and Kim Kardashian's Perfume Distribution
Kim Kardashian has angered Sephora over selling her ‘Kim Kardashian’ scent throughout the market despite their exclusivity. Earlier in the year, Sephora and Kim Kardashian worked together on a deal that would make Sephora an exclusive retail outlet selling her fragrance. The scent which later became a huge hit and turned into the chain store’s #1 seller.
Unbeknownst to Sephora, Kim has been caught in the middle of a deal to sell her fragrance through mass market channels rather than sticking it out with Sephora’s high-end-ish beauty retailer. No worries, she hasn’t necessarily thrown them under the bus, in reality Kim’s contract with Sephora was nearing its end - and of course operating as a thriving business, Sephora hoped to re-sign Kim for another term with them exclusive.
According to the Post:
"Sources say Sephora bosses are so disappointed, they plan to pull Kim's fragrance and have canceled some of her upcoming in-store appearances."
All of this came to no avail because over the weekend Kim threw a party sponsored by the fragrance which she is planning to launch early January of 2011.
As disappointed as Sephora bosses sound, do you think they will drop Kim and move ‘on to the next one’? Or will they realize the opportunity and grasp at it and continue to make profit out of huge sales?
