DJ Amadeus on the edge of a new world

In a world where everyone knows  everything, or can at least look it up in a few keystrokes on the web, few scenes are still underground, or remain that way for a long time.

But when you stop 50 people on the street and ask them if they like Dubwize (with a Z!) or Ragga Dnb, you'll probably get a confused look. Having derived from Ragga Jungle, a distinct style of Jungle which in itself is an early version of Drum N' Bass (still too underground for you?), we are slowly moving down the tree to the root of it. Basically "Dubwize", also called "Rub-a-Dub" (like the style of reggae with the same name) is comprised of chilled out drum n' bass beats mixed with the sounds of dub and highly melodic (often classic or roots) reggae vocals, and "Ragga Dnb" is made up of mostly dancefloor driven 180 bpm drum n' bass tunes with rougher dancehall or newer reggae hits remixes placed on top. A true champion of both those sounds is Amadeus, a dj and as of recent also a producer hailing from Brooklyn, NYC. DJ'ing these sounds for 12 years now, he has traveled throughout the US, Canada and Europe (he recently returned from his fifth consecutive yearly tour taking him to Germany, Belgium, France and the Czech Republic) to perform these unique styles, is closing in on about 100,000 downloads of his mixes, has put compilations of Ragga Jungle producers around the globe, and most recently is starting to get more and more recognition and success with his remixes and original tunes.

Though this scene is small, it is quite vibrant and very tightly knit, with a global underground following. Drum N' Bass being the trunk of this musical tree, it is quite exclusive, highly dominated by the UK, where it even reaches the top 40's, and extremely difficult to break into for anyone living outside of it, even though it has a massive following. Ragga Jungle on the other hand, especially the new school heads (this style was popular in the early 90's, then died out and got a revival in the early to mid 2000's with a new wave of mostly young North American producers) form a close group, communicating, exchanging tunes and making friendships, thus furthering each other's careers, notably through websites such as Raggajungle.com, Raggajungle.biz and the Russian site Raggajungle.ru. If you enjoy reggae, dancehall and dub, and enjoy fast beats with a nice rolling baseline, make sure to give this sound a spin. Go to any of the above mentioned sites, and don't hesitate to check out Amadeus' site www.amadj.com where you can get his infamous mixes and download some of his tunes, all for free of course.
