Men Can Hear When Women Have Their Periods
According to a new study, men may be able to hear when a woman has her period. Yes, ladies, the same man who “didn’t hear you” when you asked him to take out the trash and pick up dinner on his way home from work can tell from the sound of your voice that it’s that time of month.
The psychologists who conducted the study recorded the voices of 10 women counting to five at four different points in their menstrual cycles. Then they played the recordings in random order to four separate groups of men and asked them to identify which of the women had their periods.
Although the chance of merely guessing correctly was only 25% (10 recordings out of 40 were of women who had their period), men actually guessed correctly 35% of the time.
Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. This finding corroborates a 2008 study that claimed men found women’s voices more attractive during ovulation and less attractive during menstruation.
So what do we take from all this?
Well, obviously, if you happen to be a single female on the market for a gentleman friend, I guess you would want to avoid going bar-hopping with friends when you have your period. Because it seems like there might be a 35% chance that your voice could turn guys off. Or, alternatively, just make sure whatever bars you go to are playing really loud music.
