Police Keeps Arresting White Guy For Taking Walk With Black Granddaughter

Scott Henderson and his 5-year-old granddaughter, Ty, looking all suspicious

So apparently some cops in Texas didn’t get the memo about the whole “racial tolerance and integration” thing that’s happened over the last 40 years. Because they keep trying to arrest this white dude for taking his black granddaughter to the park.

Scott Henderson, a middle aged white guy from Austin, Texas, spends a lot of time babysitting his granddaughter. Her name is Ty, she’s 5 years old, and she has a different skin color than her grandpa.

You would think this last little tidbit of info would be irrelevant in this day and age; but unfortunately, you would be wrong. You see, two times over the last three years, Scott Henderson has been stopped by the police while hanging out with his granddaughter in public. Why? Because the site of a white guy taking a walk with a black girl looks suspicious to some cops and members of the public.

The latest incident occurred this past Friday. He was out for a walk with Ty when, all of a sudden, they’re swarmed by cops. They separate the man from his 5-year-old granddaughter and place him in handcuffs while they give him the third degree. Their explanation for this incident was that they had received an anonymous tip that a white guy was trying to kidnap a black girl.

Aren't anonymous tips the best!

No, seriously, I’m glad the cops take "tips" like this seriously, but this is a little much, isn’t it? If there are any real reasons to be suspicious, how about before you handcuff the guy, you see if he can produce any proof of their relationship? A couple of phone calls could clear a situation like this right up, and you don’t have to make a 5-year-old girl cry because you put her grandpa in handcuffs.

Unfortunately for the cops, Scott Henderson is a retired journalist and political consultant who runs a popular blog about the legal system in Texas. So (obviously) this story is spreading pretty far and wide, making them all look pretty damn stupid.
