Your Money is No Good Here! Man Arrested For Paying With Real Money
Lorenzo Gasper walked in to a Shelbyville, Tennessee convenience store and paid for his items with a $50 bill. When the store clerk’s marker to detect counterfeit money identified the bill as fake, he called the police and the man was arrested.
However, counterfeit detector markers are not always reliable. The arresting officer later found out by a police evidence technician that older US currency doesn’t always react to markers.
Police investigated the matter by taking the alleged fake $50 bill to a bank, which affirmed the bill to be authentic. As if that wasn’t enough, police took the bill to a second bank and it was confirmed that the $50 bill was, in fact, real.
Gasper was immediately released from jail…. ”Sorry, Lorenzo!”
