New Star Wars Role Playing Video Game To Allow Same-Sex Virtual Relationships
According to a report from PC Magazine, the new Star Wars role playing video game, Star Wars: The Old Republic, just released this past December, will apparently allow users to engage in same-sex virtual relationships.
So, great news for gay nerds everywhere!
SWTOR is an online role-playing video game based on the Star Wars universe. It’s reportedly the most expensive video game ever developed, costing a cool $200 million.
I won’t bother getting into the specifics of the game’s plot—if you are a big Star Wars geek you already know it, and if you aren’t a big Star Wars geek you’ll just be confused. I’ll just say that, basically, the game is set about 3,500 years before the events that take place in the Star Wars movies, and it involves Jedi’s doing Jedi stuff like fighting “the Dark Side”...what’s new, right?
And of course, the best part of any role playing game is pretending to be the characters on the screen. So in SWTOR, you get to be a virtual Jedi.
Now, after almost two years of rumors, it’s been revealed that, yes, the game’s developers will allow users to engage in homosexual virtual relationships.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your social politics), users won’t be able to pretend to be gay Jedis with other users. Instead, they’ll only be able to pretend to be gay Jedis with what they call “companion characters”—i.e., computer characters.
But hey, gay Star Wars nerds still gotta be pretty happy, right?
